Environment

One of the three main goals the #HOUSE team set to accomplish in our design was creating zero-energy housing. The design has sustainable aspects throughout the home, but some of the key features are its partial green roof, solar panels, and factory-built construction. See below for more details about each of these features.

What separates #HOUSE from our competitors is our partner: Volumetric Building Companies (VBC). VBC is a global leader in volumetric modular construction: a process which completes projects up to 50% faster than conventional, on-site construction methods (according to McKinsey & Company). Designed to be built in VBC’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Tracy, California, #HOUSE’s construction process mitigates waste, improves safety, and enhances quality control. Through our partnership, #HOUSE can offer you a superior living experience that is affordable, sustainable, and comfortable.

Are you looking for a reliable, durable, and efficient solar panel module that can power your home for years to come? #HOUSE features the EAGLE 72HM G2, the best-selling module globally for the last 4 years. This module is made by a NYSE-listed and Bloomberg Tier 1 manufacturer, so you can trust its quality and performance on #HOUSE. It also uses the same DuPont protective film as the International Space Station and the Mars Lander, meaning it can easily withstand harsh weather conditions such as heat, humidity, rain, marine environments, and strong winds. Lastly, with a 25 year performance warranty, you can rest assured that your investment will pay off for you (and for our environment) in the long-run.

#HOUSE brings you LiveRoof: a green roof supplied by the local California horticulture firm Florasource. However, LiveRoof doesn’t just look good, LiveRoof does good for your house.

LiveRoof reduces and purifies stormwater runoff, improves indoor air quality, and acts as a natural noise dampening system. Additionally, LiveRoof passively cools the house through evapotranspiration, keeping the indoor temperature (and the AC bill) low.

Green roofs add a beautiful touch to a home and have many environmental benefits, but they can also delay water drainage and add significant weight to a roof, leading to increased structural costs. Our team found the perfect solution. A small stretch of living roof along the edge of the front elevation gives the appearance of a full green roof to anyone viewing the home from the street and maintains the water filtration, noise dampening, and cooling benefits while also minimizing extra water retention and roof loads.
